Blow-offs and blow-outs

Just as I was heading out the door this morning, I found myself dealing with beer blow-offs and cat blow-outs (actually, that one was more up and out).
First the beer story. Sometimes ferments are so vigorous that the foamy stuff (technical term) at the top of a fermenter is forced into the airlock. Pressure can build up in the fermentor if the airlock gets plugged and you may end up spraying yeast and wort and hop resins and gunk (another technical term) on the ceiling; hence the blow-off. The photo above is not my fermenter but it’s close enough. There are ways to deal with this situation but mine was to turn around just in time to watch our cat Inky “deposit his breakfast” onto the middle of the floor. Monday was going to be a good day.
Why do cats do this! They nonchalantly walk across the room, abrubtly stop halfway, hurl up their stomach contents (sorry, no photos), and then continue on their sauntering way like nothing happened. What’s the deal?
Although I didn’t get quite as early a start as I had planned, that’s ok. Everyday is an adventure. Just enjoy it.
