Just a few days after the end of summer (or I guess some might say the beginning of fall...although I’m not sure if this is really a glass-half-empty/glass-half-full thing), my morning routine hit an annual milestone. Every weekday morning after breakfast, Kroner and I take a walk around the neighorhood to “stretch our legs”, so to speak. Regardless of the weather, we leave the house between 6:15-6:30 a.m. Up until this morning, we have been able to bask in the morning sky awakening, with enough light to allow us to meander down the street without bumping into curbs or parked cars. However, today, the sky stayed just dark enough to warrant the use of a flashlight to find and retrieve Kroner’s “treasures” and to alert any approaching cars of our presence. What this means is that for the next 6 months or so I’ll be carrying my trusty hand-cranking no-battery flashlight. (“With just one minute of cranking, this flashlight provides up to one hour of bright light with its three bright LED bulbs!”) The temperatures are still moderate enough (i.e. no frost on the pumpkies yet) that no more than a sweatshirt keeps me comfortable. Soon enough I’ll switch over to heavy coats and gloves but summer never seems to last long enough. C’mon Kroner.....
