Southeast Alaska encompasses both mainland territory and the Alexander Archipelago of islands. Three of the largest islands (colored brown) are home only to brown bears. Other large islands (colored blackish grey), as well as nearly all small islands, are home only to black bears. These same colors are used to mark sections of the coast of Glacier Bay National Park which are used primarily by brown bears (upper) vs. black bears (lower).
