One commonly reads about mother bears swatting their cubs, sometimes so hard that the youngsters go flying. I’ve also heard people talking about such sightings. However, everyone I’ve asked for details has either admitted “frosting” the truth or left me with that impression. Furthermore, in thousands of encounters with black and brown/grizzly bears, I’ve never seen it. Yes, I’ve seen a few swats and nips, but never very hard. No blood has been drawn and no cubs have gone flying.
If anyone else has actually seen severe discipline of cubs, I’ve love to read your experiences. If you have video footage of this, I’d love to see it.
