Allie and I spent the holiday in Illinois. Allie took in two nights of spectacular fireworks and I got a couple day's worth of carcinogenic baking.
Where was Deb? She decided she wanted to take advantage of the chance to be home by herself for a few days. The baby will be here by the end of the month and opportunities like this won't pop-up very often. So, while Allie and I splashed around in Papa and Nanny's pool Deb did some heavy-duty, uninterrupted, recreational reading. I looked at the stack of novels she got from the library and realized that she wasn't making any attempts to expand the horizons of her mind. Judging from the titles it was fairly apparent and Deborah isn't getting as much romance in her life as she would like.
I suppose I can't blame her. I got a glimpse of myself on video tape flipping off the diving board. I don't think I'll be invited to pose for any book covers in the near future.
We still can't decide on a name for the baby. I've had more than one meeting at work that has turned into a "namestorming" session. We have a big thick book full of names. We have a phone book. We've been on the Internet. We go out to eat at fast food places not for the convenience but to look at peoples' name tags for ideas. It's not that this is stressful or anything. But today I got an email from someone named, "Taffy". If that doesn't remind a person of the importance of this whole naming process I don't know what would.
Deb has her criteria for a name. It must be polysyllabic. It can't end in "ly". It mustn't be "stupid".
If you have any naming ideas (for boy and girl) let us know.
Tomorrow it's back to the office. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I'm trying to think of ways to make the most of each hour I have left. Sitting down here in the basement doesn't seem like the best way to make the most of this free time. However I am out of the sun. Considering how red and sore I am, hiding down here may not be that great a sin.
Jon is an Origins Award Winner. Congratulations!
It's noon. I'd better take a shower.
