Creating a Win Win Relationship
Creating a Win Win Relationship
Stephen Covey Gets an Aussie Autograph
As I spoke to Dr. Stephen Covey, I boldly decided to explore the idea of win win relationships.
I asked “Doctor Covey, how do you feel about an autograph?”
“Sure” he said with a kind smile on his face.
So quick to grab the opportunity, I took one of my books (What a Great Question) from my laptop bag and said, “I hope you don’t mind, I’ve already made it out to Stephen.”
He laughed and graciously took the book from me. As he opened it and read the inscription, I said “Win win relationships are created through giving something first I think, so I wanted you to have this gift, would you mind signing my old worn out copy of the 7 habits.”
He didn’t hesitate, writing a nice little personal note that will now sit comfortably with the other treasured books in my library.
Crazy, maybe; bold, probably; sound, absolutely.
To get you must first give, and giving a little piece of yourself is the greatest thing you can give another. Reciprocation is a two way activity that begins with proaction. Trustworthiness, absolutely vital in business today, is based on openness and a preparedness to give honestly without expecting in return.
You and I both know, as you give you get back, though not always at the time or in the place we expect.
Until the next time we catch up, take care, do something bold, give something of yourself, and enjoy life to the fullest.
