Over the last sessions we’ve taken the time to learn what we could about the disciples. We discovered that, for most of them, there wasn’t much to discover. In the balance of this chapter Jesus presents their job description, as well as warnings about what they were going to be facing.
The first half of the chapter focuses on what the disciples were to do and what they could expect. The latter section focuses more on Jesus’ expectations for those who would be hearing the kingdom message. What we see here and in the next few sessions should give us an idea of what it means to be a functioning disciple and follower of Christ.
In this session we focus on the specific instructions given to the disciples, underlying principles, and some warnings about how the text applies or doesn’t apply to us.
