Art is a tool for change, both personally and socially. Art making is a kind of healing process that facilitates people in recognizing the beauty within and around themselves. Site-specific art projects help break down the barriers of the perceived environment and re-empowers people to become active citizens involved in the creation of civic life. . They reaffirm the existence of one own voice in the midst of a hostile or isolated environment. The school mural gives children a deserved space where their own strengths are recognized. The Alter:Evolve program takes a hands on approach to art education and provides a high quality method for the restoration and beautification of the schools in the city of Newark by altering their aesthetic and causing them to evolve into a living experience of art..
