The Photos
On the left is Marj Govett and on the right Ian Reiher who both played in the International Shuffleboard Association’s Tournament in Midland Ontario during August 2007. Marj & Ian both represented Australia in the United Nations Teams.
The ancient game of Shuffleboard is being played in Australia on the Gold Coast. There are two venues one at Show Case on the Beach, Marine Parade, Coolangatta where there are 6 courts and the other venue is in Pines Lane, Elanora where there are 10 courts. Both sets of courts are under the control of the Australian Shuffleboard Association (Qld) Inc ( hereafter called the Association) and are in regular use. The Association has at present over 100 members and the Coolangatta courts are always played on a Thursday morning and the Elanora courts are played on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Each full game of 16 frames takes a little over an hour and a morning consists of arrival at 9 am for a 9.30 am start, a full game and then morning tea which is always a welcome break both to talk over the game that has just finished and to catch up with all the news of members, it is always a fun time. After morning tea another full game of 16 frames is played. Small competitions are regularly held and the Association has four main tournaments each year, with a final one of the Association Championship, winning this is quite an honour. Age is no barrier and interested people can always get more information from the Publicity Officer, Freda on (07) 5522 5459 or email her at fra41418@bigpond.net.au
