Catarina's Dream
 
Tommy and I were talking about Paso Robles one winter Sunday.  I had recently been rooting around in the past, looking for interesting historical information related to the people and places we’d seen on our recent visit.  I found an entry about Sylvester and Catarina Dusi, one of the pioneer families of Paso Robles, who planted their Zinfandel vines in the 1920’s.  Today, these vineyards contribute to some of the greatest wines you can taste from this region.

I had just finished reading a little story about how Catarina chose a specific hill to start the first planting.  I was tending to some loaves of bread just out of the oven, when Tommy began to play.  When he finished, I asked, “Was that Greig?” But as I looked up, I saw he was crying.  This perfect piece was Catarina speaking to him.

We had long since turned our family room into a studio, with every keyboard midi’d to Pro Tools.  Often, I just kept it running while I got up to cook.  So we captured this beautiful moment.  Here it is:
