Regine Basha is an independent curator and writer based in Brooklyn who has worked nationally and internationally for the past 16 years. Her career began in Montreal, as Director of the non-profit contemporary art space, The Art Gallery of the Saidye Bronfman Centre from 1992-1995, where she curated exhibitions of upcoming Canadian artists as well as internationally recognized artists. In 1996, she graduated from the inaugural class of the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and during the subsequent five years, she worked with InSite 97, Sean Kelly Gallery and The Canadian Consulate in New York. She also began to produce context-specific, temporal projects showcasing some of the most engaging emerging artists working in New York, through Mayday Productions and The Brewster Project. From 2002 - 2007, based in Austin, Texas, she was Adjunct Curator for the contemporary art center Arthouse and became Co-Founder of a contemporary art initiative called Fluent Collaborative,  She currently sits on the board of Art Matters and Aurora Picture Show and is a curatorial host to Cabinet Magazine’s new event space.This year she is an invited curator to ‘thisisjulio.com’ as well as the Columbia University MFA Thesis show at the Fisher Landau Center in May.


As a curator, Basha is interested in utilizing various formats in disseminating art and ideas including exhibition, radio, and print. Her work has received critical press in the New York Times, Artforum and Modern Painters. Her writing has appeared in numerous artist catalogs and in the publications Performing Arts Journal, Cabinet, Modern Painters, Art Papers, Bidoun and Art L!es. She has written numerous catalog essays on artists such as Daniel Bozhkov, Emily Jacir, Dario Robleto, Stephen Vitiello, Danica Phelps, and Juliao Sarmento.


Basha has also developed other projects for the industry, such as Grackleworld.com which enables an independent space for information sharing about contemporary exhibitions available for tour. Over the years, she has consulted for such organizations as Canadian Consulate General, New York, Artist Pension Trust (APT), Art Matters, Art In General, CW Corporation, UBS at Miami Basel, Creative Capital, ARCO Madrid, Art Omi, American Center Foundation and The Guggenheim, McArthur, and Alpert awards.
