Gillispie Science Web Site

The fascinating world of science is at your child’s finger tips, here at Gillispie. Our program is dedicated to the application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of scientific thought. Each topic is taught at the same time throughout the grade levels. However, the students work their way up in difficulty and depth. Let’s say they are studying matter. The third grade might sing songs about matter, dance as if they were solid, liquid, or gas atoms and then do some experiment that would be age appropriate. The fourth grade would review matter, add new vocabulary, work in higher level experiments and be expected to write observations about the results. The fifth grade would review matter be introduced to the structure of and atom, discuss molecular structure and do experiment showing chemical change. A sixth grader would review matter and molecular structure and then create molecules using a variety of materials such as toothpicks and gumdrops. They would be introduced to the periodic table and learn to read chemical formulas and draw what they would look like. We work at integrating technology into all aspects of science so it becomes a natural aspect of the scientific process.
