GLASS OF DISTINCTION Gill Hobsons’ signature works are celebrated in a new publication in hardback, ’ 50 Distinguished Contemporary Artists in Glass’. As part of the publication of a unique book about glass design and making the publishers invited over 500 contemporary artists in glass worldwide to submit examples of their work to be considered by a major figure in glassmaking. The diversity & quality of work was inspirational and the book features those chosen as the best artists of this worldwide survey, celebrating and recognizing their achievements. Gill creates richly intricate artworks & objects using her own unique handmade crystal glass. She combines these glass elements with a variety of metals & materials to achieve pieces that blur the boundaries between fine art, craft and sculpture. Working mainly to commission she produces unique pieces for commemorative artworks, wall pieces, vessel forms and large scale sculptures for public & private spaces. Distinguished appraisers in glass chose the 50 artists who they felt represented the best work of their generation and the book forms a unique gallery & reference for contemporary practice in glass today. Memorial Hall, Beverley, East Riding Using a variety of coloured glasses, wire, solder, beads & other objects you will design & create your own unique piece of glass artwork to hang in your home. This workshop teaches the basic techniques needed to achieve a beautiful & original finished piece, including glass cutting, copper foiling, soldering, patination and finishing. Students are encouraged to experiment and build confidence to create their own unique artwork. A great experience! There is a £25.00 fee payable on the day towards materials & consumables.
