How does Hitler become a dictator?  In this podcast we explore the events of 1933 and 1934 when Hitler assumes greater powers and becomes the Fuhrer on the death of President Hindenburg.  We will look at the impact of the Reichstag Fire and the March Election, the Enabling Act and the removal of political opposition in the creation of a one-party state.  We will examine the Night of the Long Knives and how Hitler was able to win the army over onto his side leading to his assumption of total power in August 1934.
