This podcast features the events which brought the world to war in 1939. It examines the aims of Hitler’s foreign policy and how he was able to exploit the weakness of the Versailles settlement. It looks at the stages in which Hitler rearms and regains territory - the Saar, the Rhineland, Austria in the Anschluss, and the Sudetenland from the Munich Agreement. We then go to explore the events of 1939 from the occupation of Bohemia and Moravia through the Polish Guarantee and the Nazi Soviet Pact to look at the outbreak of war over Poland in September 1939.
