King’s Lynn Quakers

what do Quakers believe?

It is not easy to persuade Quakers to make or accept any list of beliefs.  At the heart of the Quaker approach is the idea that we must all be seekers after truth and that each of us has to find our own way.  It is important to Quakers to recognise that everybody is able to open up to God's Light within them.  Today's Quakers vary in the extent to which they use conventional Christian language, but for early Quakers the 'Inner Teacher' was Jesus Christ.  Quakers seek wisdom from the Bible (particularly the Gospels) and from many other sources.

We have a book, Quaker Faith and Practice, that assembles the experience of Quakers in sustaining spiritually healthy groups and leading individual lives.  This book begins with the ‘Advices and Queries’ Quakers have used over the centuries to prompt themselves to reflect on their lives.  (These are also available in booklet form.)
