About Nen Daiko
Affiliated with Ekoji Buddhist Temple in Fairfax Station, VA, Nen Daiko was founded in the fall of 1994. With the guidance of then-Rev. Kenryu Tsuji and our sister groups Soh Daiko (NY) and Hoh Daiko (NJ), Nen Daiko sought to represent Ekoji by emphasizing basic philosophies of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism and its connection to taiko. In addition, Nen Daiko’s stated purposes are three-fold:
1. Expose the Washington DC metropolitan area to the cultural and musical aspects of kumidaiko.
2. Continuously improve the group’s technical and artistic caliber.
3. Enhance personal fulfillment through participation.
Since its inception, Nen Daiko has appeared at many venues such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Theatre, the National Mall, the Jefferson Memorial, and the National Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism in World War II. We have also appeared at many universities throughout the area, including George Mason University, George Washington University, and Towson University.
Today, Nen Daiko can be seen throughout the DC metropolitan area at such venues as the National Cherry Blossom Festival as well as many other local and national events. Please check our calendar for our latest performance information!
