Berlin Airlift Photo Exhibit
The German Culture Center-UMSL is pleased to host a traveling photo exhibition depicting the 1948/49 Berlin Airlift, one of the greatest humanitarian efforts of all time.
Together with their American partners like the GCC and the Center for International Studies, the German Embassy, Consulates General and Honorary Consuls have launched a campaign to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Airlift.
The traveling photo exhibition will be on view in the lovely Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, from September 8 through October 12.
The traveling exhibition “The Berlin Airlift – A Legacy of Friendship” is composed of 70 panels, including 61 photo panels. Additional items from the Mercantile’s collection will also be on view.
The Airlift made friends out of former enemies when the Americans and their allies, Great Britain and France, saved more than 2 million men and women in the city of Berlin, which had been blockaded by the Soviet Union. The campaign celebrates the legacy of friendship with the motto: “Friends Always”.
The German Embassy has produced the traveling museum exhibition in cooperation with experts of the Berlin Stiftung Luftbrückendank (Berlin Airlift Foundation).
