The acclaimed chamber ensemble Concertino Stuttgart presented a program of Baroque and contemporary music on Wednesday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee Theater at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center. The ensemble’s appearance was sponsored by the German Culture Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in cooperation with St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities.
The German ensemble was joined by local violinists John McGrosso and David Gillham or the Arianna Quartet , plus oboist Keith Hooper and percussionist Matthew Henry in an eclectic program that included works by J.S. Bach, Eva Schorr and Scott Joplin. Director Jürgen Schwab will lead the group in his composition based upon Hasidic musical themes.
Eva Schorr is a major Post-War composer and painter who is celebrating her 80th birthday. Her concerto for strings, oboe and percussion was accompanied by a showing of her paintings.
