Hotel Bukowski

This project originated after Valerie van Leersum heard one of the works of composer Gerco Aerts. He created musical stories around recordings of Charles Bukowski reading his own poetry.

These narrative pieces are at there most potent when the noise of the outside world is locked out so that a one on one experience arises. To achieve this she created three separate rooms. Both on the inside and the outside they have an alienated feeling about   them. When the visitor enters the little room he is surrounded by a strange interior, unknown objects and smells. Sitting in a comfortable chair he or she hears one of the musical poems and becomes part of the installation. Because the occupant is actively part of the performance the words of Bukowski leave behind a surrealistic feeling as the visitor steps in the real world again.

Gerco Aerts graduated in 1997 as a double bassplayer and has since played in numerous formations and written music for different groups, projects and film scores.

Valerie van Leersum graduated in 2001 at the school of art and work as a free artist, creating installations in public spaces and theaters.
