THE REV. DR. GEORGE H. MARTIN

What You Can Learn About Me
In the next couple of pages I’ll describe some of the things I most like to do in my ministry as an ordained Episcopal priest. This year I celebrated my 44th year of being ordained as I became a deacon on June 17, 1967. Soon after I began working as a curate in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, where I served for two years. Leaving there I thought I was headed into academia, not to give up the ministry, but I felt called to pursue an advanced degree in sociology and thought that maybe I was suppose to end up as a university professor. It didn’t exactly happen to turn out that way, even though teaching is an essential part of my life. I was called back into parish ministry and have never left it. Even though, I’m am somewhat retired I continue to do interim parish ministry, as well as other things.
So you see there is more to be said. Please continue with the next few pages.
FLUNKING RETIREMENT
The pictures on this page show me at a baptism, at a Twins game, and with my wife Caroline. This website, obviously, isn’t all about the formal ministry side per se, as important as that is. I’m blessed with my family (wife, 4 kids, their spouses, and 10 grandchildren). I love the outdoors for golf, gardening, chair-saw carving, and cabin time. And I love to serve the church. Recently I’ve been flunking retirement—which some consider a good thing. That’s why I’m willing to continue teaching, consulting, and leading seminars.
