Alex Woodcock was born in Alnwick, Northumberland, but now lives in West Sussex, and has been dancing since 1932. He was taught his clog routines by Bert May, the son of a famous North Eastern clog champion, and is still teaching at workshops and festivals.

Alex Woodcock's Waltz can be broken down into six "steps" or "step sequences."

Each "step" takes 16 bars of music and includes a distinctive named rhythm

The named rhythms are:
1 Catch Out • 2 Baby Crunch • 3 Jump Clicks • 4 Click Crunch • 5 Lazy Walks • 6 Bells

Each named rhythm is danced 3 times together with an introduction (the platform) and every step sequence ends with the platform and a finish:
The Platform
This rhythm is danced as a 2 bar introduction to all of the other rhythms
The 6 Named Rhythms
A different 2 bar rhythm for each of the six "steps"
The Finish
This 2 bar rhythm is danced at the end of each "step"

For each "step" the rhythms are danced in the following order:

• Platform & Named Rhythm (4 bars)
• Platform & Named Rhythm again (4 bars)
• Platform & Named Rhythm a third time (4 bars)
• Platform & Finish (4 bars)

Follow the notation for a left foot and for a right foot start.
