My name is Joanne Lee. I am an artist, writer and lecturer.
I write about curiosity, attention, wonder, imagination, interpretation and resourcefulness. I sometimes make art out of the things I notice around me, though I tend to agree with Brian Eno that ‘if you don’t call it art, it’s usually more interesting’. I work with photography and the moving image, occasionally venturing into the realms of drawing, and I retain a fascination for artists books and independent publishing.
I lived in Sheffield for 18 years, latterly undertaking a daily commute to Nottingham where I was Programme Leader for the BA Fine Art course at Nottingham Trent University until 2006. Having become exhausted with the M1, I took leave for a year and headed south to Brighton, where I’m still excited by the views from the 24th floor flat in which I now live. I now teach part-time at NTU and I am working on a range of projects using words and images, including a series of publications under my own imprint, the Pam Flett Press.
