The USSA SuperTour came to Stowe, and along with the UVM Carnival, it was quite a weekend. Skiers raced on the new race course at Trapp’s, a nice course with some good hills, flats, and lots of opportunities for friends and family to cheer. Saturday saw clear skies with firm and fast snow. Sunday was a different story, with the morning starting with gale force winds, lots of wet snow coming down, and temperatures dropping from the low 40’s to the high 20’s in three hours. As the J2 boys were starting, you could hear thunder.... real thunder, in the distance. The weather was too crazy to even take any pictures in the morning.

Some stories from the weekend: it was great to stay in Stowe all under one roof • Paddy flew on Saturday • Heidi loved here skis on Sunday in the tricky wax conditions • Dinner was delicious on Saturday night • for some reason, the wax crews kept tripping circuits on Sunday (see picture below for hint) • the team celebrated Emily’s birthday with her Friday night • coaches enjoy chocolate on cold days at the wax bench • Paco uncorked an awesome race in the 15 km classic • ice baths are becoming popular among the Ford Sayre crew • telling your head coach that you are feeling a little achy, perhaps coming down with cold, is a good way to get out of sharing a bed on an overnight race trip • Dylan will always be a member of Ford Sayre • Lar Flora looks cool • coaches were definitely enjoying the wild, wet, cold and windy wax area on Sunday • the skiers learned that they can race under any conditions • Two more JOQ’s left, there is still time to reach your goals.
