Meet Betty

I would like to introduce someone to you. Her name is Sara Elizabeth Almaraz, but most everyone here knows her as Betty. I first met Betty around the first of April. Mutual friends introduced us and we became friends very easily.
Betty has 5 kids and has been raising them by herself since she was pregnant with the youngest one, over 9 years ago. Her faith in God is amazing! One of her daughters has had 10 operations in 12 years to correct birth defects. Dispite all that she has faced by herself, Betty praises God daily and has taught her kids to do the same. She is an amazing prayer warrior. For years, she has taken a bus to church, one and a half hours before the service starts, to meet with a small group of people and pray. When people meet her, there is a genuineness that causes them to like her immediately.
In addition to raising her kids by herself, Betty has worked full-time as a social worker in 9 schools. She works with many kids that live in a casa hogar, so she is very familiar with the impact that invironment has on their performance at school. Betty has gone with me several times when I have been working at a casa hogar or at the Cadereyta. Young children are attracted to her quickly and she has helped me understand more about the people I am serving.
Knowing Betty has been one of the biggest blessings I have experienced since  coming to Mexico.
