Give Peace A Chance

Sunday, December 2, 2007
I Know it’s been ages since I’ve posted here.... SO SUE ME!

Our trip to Hawaii was incredible. Truly a Paradise on Earth. If you are interested, check out our pictures HERE.

We visited Pearl Harbor while we were in Oahu. Such a tragic waste of life. It made me think of these John Lennon songs. And of course Happy Xmas (War Is Over) fits right in with that feeling.

Ramones - The Ramones 1975

Damn! Almost a month since my last post. I’ll try and be a more active poster.

This is the album that started it all. Hailing from Flushing, Queens, NY Dee Dee, Johnny & Joey Ramone founded the band in 1974 and recorded their self titled LP in 1975. The band stayed together and toured until 1996 when they broke up. Within a few years of the break up all 3 of the founding members died.

These songs are all 3 minutes or less, three chords or less and more original and full of life than anything that passes for “Classic Rock” from the same era. Prepare to bang your head.

If you don’t already own this album, DOWNLOAD it, copy it to your iPod or burn a CD, then play it L O U D. The speakers or your computer can’t do it justice!

Blitzkrieg Bop

Beat On The Brat

Judy Is A Punk

I Wanna Be You Boyfriend

Chain Saw

Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue

I Don’t Wanna Go Down To The Basement

Loudmouth

Havana Affair

Listen To My Heart

53rd & 3rd

Let’s Dance

I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You-Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World

Shuffle off to....South Park
Sunday, August 26, 2007
This was an odd shuffle, two Christmas songs came up out of the first five. And one is really bad.

1. Stomp Fever - The Denvermen A pretty good surf guitar song, a la the Ventures.

2. Santa Claus Is coming To Town - Bruce Springsteen A live version from 1980, Long Island, NY.

3. Hung Up On My Baby - Isaac Hayes Yes, Before South Park, before Chef, Isaac hayes did have a career! “He’s one mean Muthah f... Shut Yo Mouff!”

4. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Rob Meurer Imagine 1982...some geeky Devo-looking dweeb with a Casio keyboard cuts an album of Christmas music with his friend from the Audio/Visual club. This would be what it sounded like!

5. Who Are The Brain Police? - The Mothers Of Invention If you’ve never listened to Frank Zappa before this isn’t the cut that’s gonna convert you. It’s pretty strange and tries to be a bit artsy-fartsy. BUT, I DO highly recommend you check out FZ with or without the Mothers. He was a genius.*

* ripped from my vinyl collection

Oh yeah, if you haven’t checked out my links page, you can find it here, or at the top of this page. I have a few links to other MP3 sites/blogs where you can find tons of stuff to listen to. Of COURSE I don’t condone the illegal downloading and copying of these MP3s. They are simply posted for educational purposes.

Summer Shuffle
Sunday, August 12, 2007
OK, here are another five songs off my iPod on shuffle. Another “interesting” mix. I don’t even have a clue where I got a couple of these songs! But I like ‘em all.

Dirty Nightgown - Felix LaBand - I don’t know anything about this record or this artist.... but I think I woulda liked it back in my stoner days!

Watch That Man - David Bowie - Back in my stoner days I DID like this song and I like just about anything Bowie does.

And This Is My Beloved - Martin Denny - 1950’s - 1960’s Cocktail Music - Picture yourself drinking a martini in a “hip bachelor pad”...

Jenny Take A Ride - Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels - DUH! See my last post!

Dejate Llevar (It’s Alright) - Ricky Martin - Protected iTunes Music Store song.... can’t share....

Endicott - Kid Creole & the Coconuts - I don’t know anything about Kid Creole, but I do LOVE this song. It always makes me wanna dance and sing.

I’m Alright - Pansy Division - Pansy Division - A Gay PUNK band... sounds kinda like an oxymoron doesn’t it! I love these guys. Some of their stuff is rude and crude, odes to big fat, well you know... and well check them out and you’ll see what I mean. Actually this song is kinda clean. Not that I wouldn’t post the filthy dirty ones if they show up on my shuffle!

You, my readers, are SO lucky. The next song in my shuffle was Delta Dawn by Helen Ready.... I wouldn’t subject anybody to that Horrible piece of shit that pretends to be music!

Sock It To Me, Eh!
Monday, July 30, 2007
I tried to find something in my vinyl collection to post for my Windsor, Ontario reader(s) (?). There wasn’t much that I could connect to Ontario, or even Canada ( I DO have some Neil Young I haven’t ripped yet).

The closest I could get to Windsor was Detroit. So here are four cuts from Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels

Sock It To Me - Baby!

Little Latin Lupe Lu

Jenny Take A Ride

Happy Downloading!

Welcome
Welcome to my new Blog. My name is Gary and I just got a new USB turntable for Christmas. Actually it was on backorder so I didn’t get it until the second week here in January.

I’m all excited to start converting all my old vinyl to MP3s. I figured as long as I’m ripping these cuts/albums/45’s I might as well share ‘em!
I’m using an Ion iTTUSB Turntable (Pictured - left) with USB and Audacity software that came with it. The process has been time consuming, but fun. I have the turntable hooked up with my Powerbook.

Please feel free to listen to what I’ve copied. A lot of it is scratchy...but that’s the way my old records are!
Check out my new site.... I posted a site with pictures from my honeymoon in Hawaii with Steve.  Check it out HERE
