Between Steve and I, we have small collection of 45’s. I’m not sure what happened to my 45’s from when I was a young teen. The only one’s I have left are from my late teens and early 20’s when I was into New Wave and punk stuff. Steve, on the other hand, has all kinds of interesting stuff from his childhood. I think some of it must have been his Dad’s. Either that or he was a pretty weird kid! What 10 year old collects Big Band swing music!?
I’ll be posting dribs and drabs of our 45’s as I rip ‘em. Enjoy.
This song is the flip side of my favorite all time song - 96 Tears.
? & The Mysterians never did much else, but this song is in the same party mode as 96 Tears.
There are only a few times in your life that you vividly remember. I can think of 4. One very recently, I got married this past March. Another was the day JFK was shot. 9/11/01 stands out also. These are pretty common memories for most boomers.
One event I remember in great detail was the first time I heard the Beatles on the radio. I was 8 yrs. old and I was sitting on the radiator in the kitchen. My brother Paul was washing dishes and I was supposed to be drying ‘em. The song was I Want To Hold Your Hand.
This song was the B-side of “A Hard Day’s Night” here in the US. It’s always been one of my favorite Beatles numbers. I think it’s the harmonica that I like.
Although Bruce didn’t write this song, it is a perfect fit for the Ultimate Jersey Boy. (Tom Waits wrote it, BTW)
I don’t know much about the next 2 cuts. They are both old scratchy 45’s of Big Band/Swing orchestras that I never heard of. Both Billy Butterfield and Bunny Berigan were trumpeters, and both of these singles are excellent songs.
