Help wanted with naming this longstanding member of my smaller tank. He’s a fawn colour and in some ways resembles asparagus. You wouldn’t recognise him now from this early photo as he’s well let’s say developed rather than grown.

Star Polyps

I have a number of different star polyps of which this is undoubtedly the thickest in terms of the polyps themselves but not necessarily density of numbers. Actually these star polyps tend to be more of a yellower green (without being at all yellow) than the photo here suggests.

Unknown

Although not very clear from the photo this coral has small yellow dots of around 1 mm and are spread with around 5 to 8 mm between them. When he comes out in the daylight these tiny yellow dots protrude tiny hair like polyps, but you have to have your nose on the glass to see them.

Brown Polyps

If there is one specimen in my tanks that never fail to come out it’s polyps and especially these dark brown variety. I’ve relocated this cluster since taking the photo as he was becoming covered by the anemone that can just be seen here to the right.

Star Polyps

Not the best picture I could have taken of this cluster of star polyps, they are generally denser than this but this photo was taken shortly after being relocated. Quite thin and wispy, these polyps have white centres.

Not sure whether this species will do anything in daylight, I haven’t seen it do anything yet except fill out a bit and take on a little more colour after it’s initial slime off after being introduced. I’ve not had him but a few days at the time I’ve added this photo. In case the photo isn’t too clear, his extremities are a pale green.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have got a hard coral so early in the new tanks life, although this specimen never did fully open out. He seemed damaged at one end which I put toward the back of the tank, but he seemed to die from that end over about 3 weeks.

Not sure what to expect out of this one, he’s been with me for around 3 weeks when this photo was taken, but hasn’t changed at all since I got him. I’m keeping him in a cave to avoid strong light. Regardless of whether he will do anything he’s a welcome member of the tank, being so brightly coloured.
