Tan Toadstool

This tan coloured coral was the first addition to this tank, I moved it from my first tank after it became too large. Odd really that he took so long to attach himself and then ultimately had to cut him off the rocks to move him. Now well established, this toadstool will sometimes measure about 175 mm across.

Candy Cane

I don’t have too many stony corals, they can be difficult, but candy cane is one of the exceptions. I’ve had this little fellow from the beginning and although he is quite small his polyps have progressively increased in size. I did get a tan one at the same time as this which hasn’t really done much.

Vase Coral

This small polyp stony coral has been unfortunate not to have had the best of positions available to him in my tank, but has mainly done quite well. He is a little browner than his original green colour and I’m not sure what that means, but he continues to reveal his polyps on a daily basis. Currently about 75 mm.

White Toadstool

I told myself I wouldn’t get another toadstool mushroom, for as nice as they are and easy to keep, they do grow quite quickly and soon take over the tank. I couldn’t resist this white one with white polyps, he’s only around 80 mm at the moment and quite manageable.

Red Carnation Coral

This photo was taken the day I got this little fella, he looks a little less full than this now as I’ve found it difficult to find him a shady place in the tank. Ironically when he opens up, it’s always at the top and not the bottom as I’d expect if the light was bothering him.

Green & Orange Polyps

The different coloured polyps appear to take it in turn to be the most prominent almost on a daily basis, which make for an interesting aquarium. They seem very happy in their current location, obviously a very hardy species.

Orange Sponge

Not sure what happened to this little chap, I’d had him for about 6 months during which he never changed, I went on holiday and left my son in charge, he says it was just fine until it just disappeared about 3 days before we came back, I found him lodged behind a powerhead, floating, white and puffed up, but clearly dead.

Unknown

One of my first inhabitants of my small tank, he has varied in size and depth of colour throughout his existence. He became detached from the rock he originally came from and attached himself to a brown candy cane which killed it off, I’ve since pulled him off, which he didn’t like, but has recovered.

If you can help me naming this one
