When Grandma Kennedy’s husband died, the children split the estate. Fleming used his to attend medical school at Emory, and Delia used it to attend school in Waycross. In Gladys’s opinion, the other siblings spent the money unwisely; they drank, bought cars, married two or three times and had lots of children, ultimately using the money up. Then they’d come back to Grandma Kennedy and ask for more, so she lost a lot of money.
