There’s writing on the back that is partially obscured by the black paper the picture was once glued to. It says:

 

 

    Gladys says this is Grandma Kennedy on St. Simon’s Island. They used to go every summer. They had a cabin next to the lighthouse and would go up in the lighthouse.

When Grandma Kennedy’s husband died, the children split the estate. Fleming used his to attend medical school at Emory, and Delia used it to attend school in Waycross. In Gladys’s opinion, the other siblings spent the money unwisely; they drank, bought cars, married two or three times and had lots of children, ultimately using the money up. Then they’d come back to Grandma Kennedy and ask for more, so she lost a lot of money.
