Back, L-R: Fleming, Jennie, the others are all friends. (The men were all doctors.) The picture was made about the time Fleming and Jennie were married.

Back, L-R: Grandpa Gill and Nanny on her front porch.
    Front: Jennie holding Peggy.
There are four generations in this picture. Grandpa Gill came from England and was buried in Surrency.
This is Nanny’s house in Surrency. Nanny later moved to a farm and let Jennie and Fleming have the house. The kids were all born here. Grandpa Gill helped Nanny farm. Nanny moved back to the house when the Kennedys moved to a house across the railroad tracks.

Nanny is in the rocking chair. The little boy might be John. Fleming and Jennie are on the steps holding Peggy. Grandpa Gill is on the right.

Original one
Too blurry for Gladys to tell. She guessed it was Jennie.
When Fleming’s father died, he moved into town from the family’s timber farm in the country to finish his last year or two of high school in Surrency. He boarded with Nanny soon after her husband, Dr. Hart, had died. Nanny gave Dr. Hart’s suitcase, books, and other things to Fleming because Dr. Hart had finished medical school at Emory soon before he died, and Fleming planned to use his portion of his father’s estate to go to Emory’s medical school.

Despite the later difficulties, Gladys said “Daddy and Mama were very much in love.”
The Surrency School House. Jennie went to school here.
