Slovakian Titles

What do they mean?

A glance at the pedigree of Slovakian dogs shows strange letters and figures after dogs’ names.  These refer mostly to hunting qualifications completed in Slovakia.

The UK Kennel Club does not recognise most foreign qualifications, wrapped-up in a UK-centric world view, as it is.  When dogs are imported to the UK, the pedigree which the UK KC issues does not show these titles.

Here is an attempt at a brief summary in English of these titles, to help you understand Slovakian pedigrees:

SV:  Natural Ability Test.  (Innate characteristics, prior to training)

JS:  Autumn Test.  (Qualifies a dog as a hunting dog, for the search and retrieval of game)

FS:  Tracking Test.  (Ie deer tracking, in open fields.)

LS:  Forest Test.  (In woodland.  Includes ability to hunt deer.  Retrieval of fox and hare.)

VP:  Water Test.  (Focusses on water fowl.  Hunting in reeds and deep water.)

VS:  Versatile Test.  (A higher level than the above tests.  Dogs must have completed JS or LS first.  A comprehensive test of a complete range of a dog’s abilities, including:  Tracking deer.  Retrieval of fox and vermin.  Hunting in water.  As well as ‘ordinary’ hunting and retrieving.)

MJK:  ‘Memorial Josef Kadlec’.  (Annual competition which is the top event of the year, involving the requirements for the VS as well as a water test and a conformation assessment.)
