For Tomorrow:

The Story and Poetry of Hilda Stern Cohen

Based on episodes in Hilda Stern Cohen’s life as recounted to Gail Rosen. Hilda’s story is framed by Hebrew prayers, the prayers that Hilda prayed daily, and Hilda’s poems, written during and soon after Hilda’s experience in the Holocaust. Gail performs this moving and uplifting story either alone, or with Elizabeth Bolton, a rabbi and trained opera singer, singing the poems that have been set to music by Bill Gilcher.

Gail has presented For Tomorrow in Germany, Israel, Canada, Poland, and will be returning to Germany and Austria this year. Bring this amazing piece to your community! Student and teacher guides available.

Storytelling and Gefilte Fish

Buy it in a jar or make it from scratch, what memories does gefilte fish hold for you? This is the crowd pleaser. Here is a fun-loving, ironic and intelligent opportunity to sample the many different ways to prepare, taste and celebrate Jewish identity and community. We find ourselves in the stories we hear. We find connection to both to women who were like our grandparents and those who were not. We name and understand ourselves by the stories we tell. These stories celebrate heritage and connection.

Gail Rosen's gefilte fish is spiced up with Jewish folktales, old and new, and personal stories. A clever ballad makes this story concert a delight. From the old woman who outwits death, past a Bubby with an attitude, to the Ba'al Shem Tov, the cast of characters ranges far from our time and place and then back to home again.

Looking in the Mirror:

Jewish Women’s Stories

In this concert of powerful, engaging stories, Gail looks through Jewish women's eyes at universal questions of self: discovery, awareness, determination and definition. Story selection is tailored to the needs of your group. Midrashim, stories told to fill in the gaps in a Biblical or historical event, are woven into original stories and modern retellings of traditional tales.

Jewish wisdom, Jewish wit, Jewish history, identity and heritage, soul and spirit are contained and expressed in Jewish stories. Stories are selected and tailored to the needs of your group. Schools, synagogues, churches, women’s groups, seniors’ groups, and others have all enjoyed Gail’s stories. These are a few of her most asked for programs.

"On behalf of the faculty and students of the             Hebrew Academy allow me to express our appreciation for your excellent program this past Tuesday. I have rarely seen our high school students quite entranced as they were during your presentation. The story was both informative and touching.”

"Thank you for the wonderful program you facilitated at our Women's Department Leadership Retreat. Our goals for the program were to inspire our women's department leaders to feel spiritually enriched and to connect to one another as leaders in the Jewish community. Your storytelling talents set the tone for a very spiritual and meaningful retreat. Each one of us was captivated by your gift and came away with a renewed connection to our inner selves. You successfully engaged the participants in ways only you could do!"
