Healing Through Grief and Hope

Tikvah is the Hebrew word for hope.
Tikvah Rising is a weekend retreat for grieving adults.
Grief comes to us all. It is part of the experience of being human, of being alive in this world. When we grieve, we often long for a space in which our sorrow can be heard and our joy uplifted. Coming together, we share stories and wisdom, questions, and understanding.
We will come together to share grief and nurture hope in the beauty and peace of the natural world.
Loss can deepen our beliefs or shatter them. People of all faiths, questioning faith, or no faith are welcome. We will become thoughtful companions for each other as we honor our own unique journeys.
Guided by the needs of the participants, we will work and play with storytelling, movement, music, creative arts, nature walks, and quiet contemplation.
We invite you to come as you are, whether your grief is recent or carried from long ago.
Facilitators and Companions:
Jewish storyteller, bereavement facilitator and Hospice volunteer Gail Rosen tells stories from many faiths and cultures that ask the "big questions" about life, death, and meaning. With humor, honesty, intelligence, and insight, her work serves people dealing with loss and grief.
Spiritual director and preacher Anna Gilcher is a graduate of Shalem’s Spiritual Guidance Program and is a member of Seekers Church, an intentional Christian community in Washington, DC. She is passionate about exploring the ways in which contemplative silence and improvisational movement lead us more deeply into our own hearts and into the heart of the Divine.
Musician, songwriter and storyteller Teresa Whitaker grew up in Cynthiana, Kentucky with a love for the natural world and an ear for music and story. Her heartfelt songs and stories feature guitar, Celtic harp and percussion, opening up worlds of beauty and mystery, celebrating the poetic in the ordinary.
Cost: The cost for the 2009 retreat has not yet been set.
We anticipate a sliding scale from $250 to $150, based on ability to pay.
We invite you or your organization to help to support Tikvah Rising participants.
