Woodblock Summer
It was a good summer for woodcuts -- I had work in two art shows and made five sales, three of which were for the same image, “Large Mouth Bass” (see November 28 entry in the “archives” here) . The fourth sale was for a woodblock print of the untitled piece I had made for Baren Exchange #24), and the fifth was “Sister Aurora” (originally made for Baren Exchange #4). I also finished the piece I had been working on for a poet’s book cover. See Above.
Not totally unrelated to woodblock (since I had three woodcuts in the Burton Art Show during the event) our Drumming Poets’ group performed at the “Art, Antiques and Autumn 2007” festival in Burton on September 22. The above photo is our home made “publicity shot”, made during rehearsal one late summer afternoon. Kate and Ray couldn’t find their Drumming Poets tee shirts (which Ray had designed for us a couple years ago) so they are the two wearing black shirts (which I think looks rather handsome and adds another touch of autumn, as if they are the dark bark of trees with the rest of us as golden leaves).
An idea is floating around for at least one new piece and has to do with a certain insect that has been calling across the fields. If I don’t get started, it will be too late. Already the asters are fading and the katydids are slowing down their rhythms in the cool autumn nights.
