Whew!!!

What I thought was just a little blip with my iWeb (my blog program) turned out to actually be a warning that something bigger was about to happen! A few photos disappearing off the blog turned out to be such a minor thing. . . as very next day - my laptop decided to pretty much shut me out!
It’s no secret that I am a Mac girl - through & through, & I just love how easy they are to use & how trouble free mine have been. Several ago, Apple came out with a new operating system - Leopard - that has such wonderful features (especially for someone who is as visual as I am) & so I got it & installed it (with no problems at all) & have been enjoying it for these past few weeks. But, it turns out there are a few small side effects that can happen & since I never set up a password or log on process - the new operating system decided the computer needed one! I had been recharging my iPod & all of the sudden my laptop just shut down & when I restarted it - a completely different screen came up & wanted a name & password. . . & nothing I tried worked! Trying not to panic - I went online with an older laptop that I still have & found enough information on the Apple website about this little “issue” & how I could at least log on. But when I did - the desktop was not mine. . . & none of my folders were on the desktop. . . But, after a bit of searching around, I was able to find that all of my files were still there - somewhere (including my new book. . . that I had not backed up yet!), but I was no longer the administrator of my own computer (!) I knew enough to know that I wanted the Mac techs at the Apple Store to get things right. Even though the website gave all sorts of instructions. . . but they scared me a little - even though I know it’s hard to screw up stuff on a Mac. . . this seemed a little deeper than that. . . so I made an appointment at my Apple Store.
That was this morning. . . & boy was I glad they made the adjustments for me! They went into the ‘depths’ of my Mac. . . you know - the black screen that programmer use. . . those scare me! I like my flowery desktop. That big black screen with the thousands of lines & codes makes me shiver! But, the tech had it back up to my friendly, flowery screen within fifteen minutes & all my precious folders were right where I left them. So now we’re back up & running. . . Whew!!!
. . . & I am so thankful.
Not only for my helpful Mac tach - but for my Dad who gave me a lot of hugs when I had a mini-meltdown over losing my desktop (before I found my hidden folders.), & for all the blessings I have in my life. This season has been one where I now can sit back a little and reflect on what is really important. . . (& it’s not my laptop). I know that I am looking very forward to this very special day - when we can stop & remember what we are thankful for.
. . . & I know that I have a lifetime of reasons.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.http://web.mac.com/fromlittleacorns/iWeb/Little%20Acorns/Little%20Acorns%20Blog/E67CC28E-2339-4733-A2F4-7BD783C00EAB.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0
