Doug’s Quad Cities Collectibles

Doug Smith started collecting at a very young age. By the time he was ten he had become a local flea market dealer, buying and selling all types of collectibles. At the age of 14 he started collecting records and today has over 100,000. Along with records he compiled vast accumulations of picture sleeves, sheet music, concert posters, autographs and other music related memorabilia. His passion for local (Quad Cities Iowa & Illinois) history has compelled him to amass large collections of ephemera, postcards, rare books, photographs, stereoviews, and advertising. Other things he has collected include sports memorabilia, yearbooks, toys, pinbacks, beer cans & breweriana, movie posters, jukeboxes, radios, phonographs, bicycles, cereal premiums, vintage games, MAD magazines and much more. He ran a “Collectible Oldies Record Show” for fifteen years, has been an ebay seller since 1999, and in 2000 was contracted to create and provide forty large displays of rare vintage music memorabilia for the grand opening of “Rhythm City Casino” in Davenport.

Considered one of the country’s top collectibles authorities, he has been writing the column “Doug’s Q.C. Collectibles” for the Quad City Times in Davenport, Iowa since February of 2007 where his unique personality puts a fun spin on collecting. His first book was published in December of 2007 entitled “Davenport – A Postcard History,” and contains rare historical views taken from his personal collection of thousands of rare real photo postcards and stereoviews.

Doug is a graduate of Davenport West High School Class of 1977.
