When Diesel was born I swore that I was the mom of an only child for life. I didn’t need more than one. Diesel presented us with this own unique challenges and I was happy with it being just him and us for ever. Then when the baby bug bit me (or should I say toddler bug) and we decided to do the adoption, I swore that I was the mom of boys. Only. But since nature doesn’t present us with a choice, I didn’t feel right demanding one gender over the other. 12 months later we were blessed with our little princess. And then again 18 months after that, with another little princess. I love my girls but boy oh boy do they have their own set of challenges that I never thought I would have to deal with as a mom. Kinhly, being all of 4 years old now, is becoming big enough to make the choices on her own television watching....or should I say that she’s old enough to voice an opinion on her viewing habits; I always have the final say. This brings me to a delema that I thought I would never have to face as a previously assumed mom of an only boy: Hannah Montana or iCarly?
You would have to live under a rock to have not heard of either of these girls. AND even if you lived under a rock, if you were to ever poke your head out for a little sunlight, you’d have to be blind not to see the the effect that this generation’s teen idol is having on the tween population. But where there’s one, there’s always competition...The Backstreet Boys had *nSync - Brittany Spears had Christina Aguirlera - and Hannah Montana has iCarly. As a parent it would be stupid to just let your child pick what ever they wanted and never look into it. So here’s the question I pose for my readers: Most of you have girls, and those of you who don’t right now, you will, so which would you let your child listen to or watch? Other role models and debates about public figures being role models aside - just strictly based on the two girls presented - Who would you rather they preferred?
Tune in for my choice and a photo recap of Kinhly’s birthday soon! Much sooner than these last couple of posts, I promise!
