Annapolis ...

We made it to Rock Hall, MD, by noon to see our new future home. It was still on the hard (i.e. never been in the water), but the bottom had been painted and the air conditioning installed. We met with the commissioning manager to work out final details, like ordering the TV and the pactor modem so we can receive emails. It is overwhelming all the stuff we need. After 3 nights at a local Rock Hall campground (killer flies), we moved to the Naval Station campground in Annapolis. We were so lucky to camp near Annapolis because of Erik Hunter graduating from the plebe summer camp. Erik has been one of Terry’s swimmers for the past 4 years. He is now at the Naval Academy and headed for an outstanding swimming career ... Nationals? Olympics? The only campground with hookups within 30 miles of Annapolis is on the naval base. Luckily they made an exception for us since we were there for the Class of 2011 summer graduation. We camped for 12 nights and explored the whole area. In the past we have visited Annapolis for the boat show but never had enough time to actually get to know the area. We found bike paths, shopping areas, anchoring spots and sailing supplies sources. Erik’s liberty weekend included time-off from noon on Friday until Sunday at 5:30 p.m. He had to be in his dorm every night to sleep, but he had his parents, Jo and John, there to show around during the day.

We were invited to Erik’s sponsor family’s home for a BBQ on Saturday, which was very enjoyable. They are such a lovely and outstanding couple. They have sponsored many plebs so Erik has good local family support.
