It’s a month-long book release party for two limited edition artist books published by 5 Traverse: Will Schaff's terrifying, beautiful Monday Morning, Going to Work and Jessica Deane Rosner's haunting, exquisite Diary Project.

Plus: Jacqueline Ott unveils one-of-a-kind paintings in hand-bound books, Michael Bizon really messes up a teen fan magazine, Elizabeth Duffy documents the private life of kitchen sponges, Allison Paschke crafts an unknown language, and Dan Wood puts a new spin on old-school letterpress printing.  And more.  Finally, we invited Brent Legault of Ada Books to curate a section of books he loves.  And he accepted our invitation.

MONDAY MORNING, GOING TO WORK

by William Schaff

co-published with 5 Traverse Gallery

At last, three new drawn stories appear in this 92-page, color, cloth-bound book.  A limited edition of five books will be available with a unique, frame-able full-color drawing as a book-cover.  The original drawings and fine reproductions of individual sequences will also be available.  Click here for on-line store.

Schaff is known for his intense graphic imagery, in zines, album cover art, embroidery (yes, embroidery), and paper cutouts, not to mention the legions of fans tattooed with his drawings.

He has shown at myriad Rhode Island galleries (including our own 5 Traverse), and plays in the awe-inspiring What Cheer! Brigade street marching band.

THE DIARY PROJECT

by Jessica Deane Rosner

co-published with 5 Traverse Gallery

In 1986, this artist's diary disappeared.  14 years later a stranger returned it to her and she embarked on a project to transform each of the 72 pages into a new drawing.  Here, for the first time, all 72 drawings are reproduced in a full-color, hard-bound book.  This is a signed, limited edition of 50 books, each comes with a sealed envelope containing a secret original drawing by the artist. The original set of drawings, as well as hand-embellished fine reproductions, will also be available.  Click here for on-line store.

Rosner's work has exhibited at the DeCordova Museum of Art, the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University, and the Bernard Toale Gallery, among many others.  In addition to the 5 Traverse flat files, her work is represented at the Pierogi Gallery (Brooklyn and Leipzig), Carroll & Sons Gallery (the Boston Drawing Project), and with Providence's own Cade Tomkins.  Rosner was a MacDowell Colony resident, and has been featured in New American Paintings magazine.   Read more about the Diary Project here and here, and at the artist’s website:
