Yesterday, a couple of Celilo Legacy team members travelled to Celilo Village to meet with some of the leaders there. They were enthusiastic about the Celilo Legacy project. They felt strongly about owning the message about Celilo Falls and having the opportunity to tell their story and educate the public about the loss. They shared several stories about the community’s struggle to maintain their livelihood and cultural heritage after the flooding.
They are interested in preparing a feast and having a ceremony for the public on the actual anniversary, March 10th. This will be a great opportunity for visitors to see the new Celilo Longhouse, which was just completed last year, as well as showcase tribal salmon culture.
Another exciting idea that was shared with them was making contact with Maya Lin to discuss her Confluence project and art on the cliffs above Celilo.
