This second volume of Perthshire walks adds another twelve attractive and accessible walks to the series, with routes ranging from 2 to 10 miles in length. The easy-to-follow guide combines clear descriptions and maps with fascinating facts to reveal what makes ‘Big Tree Country’ so special.
The cover of volume 2 shows a view over Pitlochry to a snowy Ben Vrackie, which is the most demanding walk in the book. The easiest is a 2-mile stroll through Quarrymill Woodland Park in Perth to the memorial to the great plant hunter David Douglas in Scone.
The walks lead readers through Perthshire’s finest scenery to breathtaking viewpoints such as Pinecone Point (Dunkeld), Black Rock (Kenmore) and Melville’s Monument (Comrie).
Outdoor writer and photographer Felicity Martin has always been interested in walking, woods and wildlife. She has spent many years exploring Scotland, particularly her home patch – Perthshire, and is the ideal guide to the area’s best walks.

volume 3
12 walks around Perthshire
by Felicity Martin
The third volume of Perthshire walks complements volumes 1 and 2 with a further selection of carefully researched routes, ranging from 2 to 14 miles in length.
All the walks are illustrated with Felicity’s maps and photographs, and she has included additional information that highlights the special aspects of Perthshire’s natural heritage that make it ‘Big Tree Country
The cover shows Castle Menzies set against the backdrop of Weem Wood, which is visited on a walk from Aberfeldy. This is an apt image, as it was in the castle’s walled garden that Archibald Menzies – the Perthshire plant hunter who discovered many American trees that now grace our landscapes – started his working life.
A car is not needed to make use of the guide, as most of the start points are accessible by public transport.
