Unusual Studio Experiences

Every once in a while I’ll get an unusual request while I’m working at an animation studio.   I was doing development on a few feature ideas at Hyperion when Louie Anderson asked the studio to do a couple of illustrations for a meeting at Bally’s where he would pitch the ideas for a Louie Anderson Comedy Theater and a restaurant named, “Fatty’s Diner” (artwork above).  Louie was a fan of Fatty Arbuckle, and he wanted to host an Arbuckle-themed deli at the casino.  I came up with this design based on research of restaurants from the silent film era - 1910’s and 1920’s.  The idea didn’t sell, but I had fun doing the illustration.
