Need Genealogical Research?

My very central location means that I have short travel times to reach most New England repositories. Below you will find an explanation of a typical research project. Each project is different and will need customization, however, so please call or email with any questions.

Definition of Problem and Scope of Project

The client presents a genealogical problem that needs solving. Together, the researcher and client set a time limit for the initial research.

Contract and Deposit

Once the project is well defined, both parties sign a contract and the client sends a retainer for (usually) one-half of the contracted hours. Research begins upon receipt of the contract and retainer.

Fees and Charges

I charge an hourly rate for all research, analysis and reporting time.  Travel hours are billed at a lesser rate. Incidental expenses such as tolls, parking, copy postage and repository research fees are billed at cost.

Report and Invoice

The report will contain a detailed analysis of results, both positive and negative, plus recommendations for next steps, if any. Each invoice will consist of an acknowledgment of receipt of retainer; breakdown of hours of research and travel, including dates and repositories visited; and list of incidental expenses.

Next Steps

Based on recommendations in the report, the client can then decide what steps to take next, including the decision to invest more time in research.
