THE LONG SHORT STORY:
This Town Needs Guns could well be the next ‘big thing’ to come out of Oxford. Their music is intricate, challenging yet tuneful, and clear of intention: to move you to a sway, and hipnotise you in to calm submission. Forget the distortion, these guys use melody, rhythm and vocal hooks to win hearts and minds.
If guitars that sound like they are being played by octopuses, vocals that wear their heart firmly on their lyrical sleeve, and rhythms that shift and twist as much as they keep time are to your taste, then this band is for you. Their influences are clear (check their myspace) but their sound is their own. It’s too personal not to be.
Already championed on the internet by small blogs and influential magazine sites (such as drownedinsound.com) alike, This Town Needs Guns look set to go from strength to strength. It also helps that they enjoy touring their arses off.
