born 1945 lives and works in Bignona (Casamance)

Lontano dai territori delimitati del mondo dell'arte, Séni Awa Camara presenta i suoi lavori in mezzo al mercato di Bignona. In mezzo a frutta e legumi, le sue sculture d'argilla, figure espressive e fantasmagoriche si offrono allo sguardo dei visitatori, locali.

Tempo abolito Camara non ha mai lasciato la Casamance, non ha mai visto una sua esposizione all'estero.

Camara medita le sue fantasie i sogni, poi inizia a lavorare la terra da dove usciranno le sue creature, difformi, irriverenti o inquietanti.

Cotte a bassa temperatura sotto il cielo nel mezzo della corte di casa sua, sono in seguito ordinate insieme ad altre in un piccolo locale.

Maternità o coppie il cui corpo si copre di piccoli personaggi, visioni uscite dall'eternità della tradizione Diola, le sculture di Camara sono oggi opere profonde dell’ Art Brut autentico presenti nei maggiori musei d'arte contemporanea del mondo.

BIOGRAPHY

Seni Awa Camara, born in 1945 is a Senegalese sculptor. She was born in Bignona, where she still lives and works. She creates her clay sculptures in her front yard, then fires them in an open-hearth kiln before displaying them around her house. The pieces represent personal symbols, motherohood, couples, traditional Diola subjects which she exhibits at the Bignona market among produce. She never left Casamance nor ever saw an international art exhibition.
