Homemade yogurt is what works for me this week. Most weeks, in fact. In addition to being healthier and way less expensive, I also think it tastes better- and it’s pretty easy to make.
42 oz milk (I use a 1/3 mix of whole milk and 1%)
1 container (small) of store bought yogurt (I use Lucerne low fat vanilla)
Bring the milk very slowly to a boil and wait until it begins to climb the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and pour into a clean bowl. Pull the store bought yogurt out of the fridge and let them both sit on the counter until they are room temperature. Mix together with a wire whisk and pour into small glass jars, (I use jars that are made for yogurt but large baby food jars or small canning jars would work fine too). Place in your oven on warm (120 degrees or so) for eight hours, (without their lids). Place in fridge, (with their lids), and the next morning you will have cool, creamy, slightly sweet, but not too much, yogurt. This is wonderful on it’s own, with honey on top, or in chocolate banana smoothies.
Chocolate banana smoothies:
1 Banana (frozen works best)
1 scoop of chocolate slim fast
2 T wheat germ
3/4 cup yogurt
6-8 ice cubes
Good splash of milk
Place everything in the blender and enjoy- it tastes much less healthy than it is. So there you have it- it works for me. For more and better ideas go visit Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer.
Oh, and please see my last post as well- it’s WFMWesque. You can get to it by clicking on the “previous” button below or by going to my home page, (which is more fun). Thanks for reading!
