Desert Armor NEWS
DAK is earning a reputation from coast to coast as a leader in RC tank combat. Battle scenarios and “tank olympics” are showing up at Danville and we are proud to be noticed. We will be putting together a cheat sheet for others interested in building a club and we hope to spread the fun.
Our next battle will be Saturday October 10th 2009. It will be a day battle as soon as the weather cools. The field is changing, soon to be added are more buildings and tank obstacles.
DAK is expanding its membership and award winning arsenal. We have 45 working tanks and ten more under construction. In November 2007, My T34/76 and SU-122 placed 1st and 2nd in the conversion category at IPMS Modelzona in PHX. Jan 26th 2008. “In the Mood” picked up a gold medal at the Papago AMPS contest in Phoenix. Modelzona 2008 netted a 2nd and 3rd place for my Bovington Tiger and Hybrid Firefly Ic. At Papago in Jan, 2009, Tiger 131 earned a silver medal from AMPS-AZ and was also featured in Fine Scale Modeler Magazine.
Current DAK projects include an SU-85, White Washed Shermans, A Panther, 2 PZ IIIs, 2 PZ IVs, 3 KTs, and a Stug III and Stug IV. Future vehicles expected to make the scene include a japanese vehicle, Tamiya and HL KV-1s and maybe a HL VVSS Sherman or two.
Static model side of our site has been updated and expanded to begin the AMPS (Armor Modelers and Preservation Society), affiliation. The 1/35 scale armor society is great inspiration for our beasts.
The Merrill family all participates and runs their 4 tanks ruthlessly. Alex has learned that tracks do break and his sister likes to engage in head to head combat!
DAK member Joseph Garcia, another IPMS convert, will plunge into the hobby with a refurbed Pershing, HL Tiger, and Bulldog! We always encourage our new troops to start off slow.
DAK recruit Kevin Wenker has surprised us all with a Tamiya KT purchase. To further detail his new project, he has traveled to France to look at the real thing. DAK extreme detail!!! According to him he got $1200 in Wecohe products in a raffle.
Check out Doug Sharpe’s Spektrum user guide in the Radio room. His latest venture is a Panther with all the trimmings. The full metal Blast set is a thing of beauty.
IPMS member Chris Nadeau has some great ideas for the battle field so he’s a DAK member whether he likes it or not! Can we say M-36? He has added a Tiff William’s turret to a refurbished Sherman to make an M36B1.
Funny how we all run out of money before we run out of ideas.
