On this auspicious day I would like to take the opportunity to make another little announcement. We have just put the finishing touches to our Photoshop CS3 Essential Skills book. We have added 64 new pages, replaced the CD with a DVD and doubled the movie support. The supporting images are now mostly full resolution JPEG, TIFF and Raw files. We not only introduce all of the new features of CS3 Standard Edition, but in many instances introduce techniques that overcome the limitations of many of these new tools. I have created a podcast that highlights just a few of the limitations and how the tutorials in the book go one step further in training the user in the best possible editing techniques.
The new Refine Edge dialog box, Black and White adjustment and improved Merge to HDR automated feature in Photoshop CS3 (to name but a few) all help the user to achieve quality or efficiency of workflow. All of these new features, however, have limitations and it is possible to work around these limitations and in many instances achieve better HDR images, Black and White conversions or more refined edges using the tips and techniques to be found in the new Photoshop CS3: Essential Skills book.
The new essential skills book embraces the new Adobe Camera Raw, Smart Object, Smart filter approach to advanced image editing and the book has had a major overhaul to outline these new editing workflows (over half the book has changed since the CS2 version). The book’s supporting DVD (with over 8 hours of movie tutorials) also comes with royalty free stock images, presets and actions to make this more of a training package rather than just a book and some extras. It’s been a lot of hard work but the journey has been exciting.
