JESUS MATHEUS
CLA Gallery, Boston, MA
Matheus has remained inspired in a formal, visual language derived from Pre-Columbian cultures, not just in South America, but in Central America, Mexico, and the Southwestern United States.

In the open series of new works introduced here Jesús Matheus achieves confirmation and reinterpretation of universal languages, signs, and symbols –collectively made and grasped, visual and manual—that have endured from pre-historic times and objects into the present.

Visual/Manual affords us the opportunity to be active spectators, to engage with Matheus’ works and view them afresh, with clear mind and eyes; to witness the continuation of an abstract tradition that spans the times, not just of modern non-objective art, but the entirety of creative output involving age-old signs and meanings.
